Computer Scientists Contructed 3D Images of Rome Using Image on Flickr

Category : Blog Post September 20, 2009

Continuing the theme of sci-fi-came-true today — During a design discussion with my colleagues back in 2005, I thought-out-loud a idea to construct a 3D record using user-generated images captured during the funeral mass of late Pope John Paul II. Today, I’m amazed that a group of scientists at University of Washington actually did it, not for one event but for many landmarks of Rome!

Click “Live Demo” on the University of Washington Photo Tourism website. That Java program is a little buggy. You’ve been warned. 😛
